FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Below is a selection of the most common questions asked about Great Effort Limited. If you cannot find the answer to your query here, please contact us – all our contact details can be found on the contact us page.

What can I use a Great Effort Reward chart for?
The charts can be used for absolutely anything – there are a selection of the most common tasks and goals for you to choose from, or you can select ‘other’ and add one of your own. From the most obvious like potty training, eating vegetables, going to bed and helping with chores (for older children) to more specific goals such as progressing in swimming, telling the time and learning the alphabet, online reward charts can be both motivating and fun. They can also be used for longer term objectives, for example, general good behaviour, encouraging good manners or doing well at school; checking the reward chart can become part of their daily routine.

How much does it cost?
Please see the cost page.

What will I get from the site?

Can I add more than one child?
Yes, and the children can be linked in one folder.

Can my child have more than one task?
Yes, there is no limit on the number of tasks, hence the number of reward charts, your child can have. However, Great Effort Limited recommends that your child concentrates on one task at a time in order to achieve the best results. Once one goal has been reached, your child’s confidence will be higher and their motivation greater, at which point you could try moving on to a more difficult task.
In addition, running more than one task at a time can become confusing!

Is there a time limit on the reward charts?

Will my child be able to add tokens?
In order to add tokens to a reward chart, you must supply details of your account and your password. Your child will therefore only be able to add tokens (in other words cheat!) if they have access to all this information, including your password. If you keep this secret, the chart will be safe from any tampering!

Is there a maximum number of tokens I can award my child?
There is no limit to the number of tokens your child can earn, however if an unprecedented number are awarded within a short space of time, this will be highlighted to Great Effort and we will contact you to ensure that this is correct. This is in case your child discovers your username and password and begins awarding themselves tokens!
As a general guide, we suggest that one token is awarded every time your child does the specific task. This may mean, for potty training for example, that they earn eight (or maybe more) tokens per day. However, for a more general goal like long term good behaviour, you may choose to award one token at the end of the day if they have behaved well that day but also award bonus tokens for exceptional things, for example volunteering to wash the car, helping your neighbour with their shopping etc. As long as you agree with your child clearly at the beginning of the task how tokens will be awarded, that is all that matters.

What is Gus’ Golden Star?
Every week five children who have received a minimum of seven tokens that week (therefore averaging one token per day) will be selected at random to appear in Gus’ Golden Star. This is to encourage children to continue to strive consistently towards their goal whilst the random element allows all participants an equal chance of appearing on this part of the site. (Basically, it is not just for the children who earn the most tokens, as some tasks will allow more tokens to be earned than others therefore not allowing a fair comparison.)

What is Gus’ Gallery?
Gus’ Gallery is a hall of fame for all children who have completed their tasks! Once you have confirmed that the task has been completed, your child’s picture (either the photograph you have provided or the cartoon image you chose) will be displayed in Gus’ Gallery, showing what the task was and the date they completed it. (Once the photograph has been added to the gallery, you will be unable to change it, although it can be removed if you contact Great Effort.)

How secure is the site?
Our security page will give you the information you need.

I do not wish to put a photograph of my child on the internet. Can I still use the site?
Yes, of course. This is a common concern and we have therefore provided a library of cartoon children for you to choose from. Choose the one that you feel best represents your child!

My child would like to change their token. Is this possible?
Yes, simply access your child’s webpage in the normal way and select the edit page option. This will allow you to change the chart’s colour, the tokens, the text you have written and the photograph of your child. Please note, when the token is changed, it will change all the previously awarded tokens too.

What happens when my child completes their task / achieves their goal?
Once you are happy that your child has finished the task, you can tick the completed box on the webpage. This freezes the page and changes it to show that your child has achieved their goal, so that any visiting friends or family will see the good news and hopefully congratulate your child.
Once you have confirmed that the task has been completed, your child’s picture (either the photograph you have provided or the cartoon image you chose) will be displayed in Gus’ Gallery, showing what the task was and the date it was completed. (Once the photograph has been added to the gallery, you will be unable to change it, although it can be removed if you contact Great Effort.) In addition, an e-certificate will be sent to you by email. This is in a printer-friendly format so can easily be printed off for you to award to your child.

My child’s picture is in Gus’ Gallery but I would like it removed. How do I do this?
No problem, just email, telephone or write to us, and we will happily remove it from the site. All our contact details are on the contact us page.

My child is on Great-Effort.com but I did not add them myself and I would like them to be removed. How do I arrange this?
It is possible for anyone to set up a webpage on this site therefore allowing not only mums and dads but also teachers, nannies, childminders, grandparents etc to create reward charts for children. However, if it is not the child’s mother or father creating the page, they will be asked to provide one parent’s name, address and telephone number. Great Effort Limited then contact that parent and inform them of their child’s participation on great-effort.com. If you have not been informed of your child’s participation on this site, either we have contacted the other parent or alternatively, the information provided regarding the child’s parent was incorrect. We will remove any child on the request of one parent – please contact us by email, telephone or post stating your request. All our contact details are on the contact us page.
